Lockout

Floro's Late To The Party Reviews - Lockout

Starring Guy Pearce and the girl from Taken in a Sci-Fi action movie from the producers of Taken. You get the feeling that the Taken studio looked around, saw Pearce waiting for the shuttle to the parking lot in the pose from the poster, and yelled "Hey! Are you doin' anything later?". Pearce was obviously like, "I'm kinda in the middle of a sci-fi movie where I really have to act and not shoot anything; not even Aliens! Can you fix that?"

This classic Die Hard style one sarcastic-renegade man-army against a hostage situation, with a slightly futuristic twist. It has all the pieces of a great terrible movie that stands the test of time. When it started, I wondered why it didn't do well. Then they got to the special effects, and I said "oh". Then I started laughing. Then the motor-uni-cycle chase kept going and I nearly quit.

If this looks like a motor-uni-cycle built on a PSOne graphics engine to you, you're giving it too much credit.

But I'm glad I didn't! Maggie Grace (The girl from Taken) is...serviceable. They don't give her anything; she doesn't really add much. The plot falls apart violently, and she soldiers on nicely I guess. There are two bad guys, but we only care about the crazy one. Joseph Gilgun could be a crazy, barely intelligible English murder guy in any movie for me.

Because even in the future, he promotes a balanced breakfast.

This is definitely worth a viewing, especially if you've already paid your Netflix bill this month. Lockout doesn't stop for anything. It ends quickly and as stupidly as you'd expect. If you like mindless action, this movie is right up your alley.
